Whilst WAG was once a person who told amusing jokes and stories, it's now widely gatherered the new definition of wives and girlfriends. This refers to the wives and girlfriends of football players.
WAG is therefore now considered to be an acronym to describe the wives and girlfriends of high-profile football players. Whilst originally the England national football team's wives and girlfriends were the subject of the term, it's now used for a wider range of footballers and celebrities. It was coined in the British Tabloid press and quickly caught on. The term has been used to describe many other forms of celebrity partners too.
